How to walk in high heels? This is something every girl has struggled with at some point. Even Carrie Bradshaw (wink to my twitter followers) hasn’t always looked so natural in heels. There isn’t a single girl in this world who was born with the ability to walk in heels, no matter what tell you or how easy they make it look. They have been through some hard times with their heels, just like you and I.
I am basically a heel addict. Yea I know, I’m addicted to a lot of things. But who said I couldn’t be addicted to several things at the same time ? I am now 21 years old and I bought my first pair of high heels when I was 15, thanks to (or because of ?) my best friend who was already a heel addict at that time and who totally convinced me to get that 5″ heels pair. That’s when I learnt how to walk in high heels ! I’ve been wearing heels since then. I mean, not necessarily every day, but every time I have an occasion to. I cannot resist a beautiful pair of heels, this is just not possible for me, that’s why there will probably be a pair of those shoes in every haul you’ll see on this blog !
Over those six years of wearing heels, I have noticed that some tips and tricks can help a lot if you’re a beginner in that field. I’ve decided to share them with you today, hoping it could help some of you, shoes lovers !
How To Walk In High Heels ?
1. Don’t Be Too Greedy
If you’re not used to walking in heels on a regular basis, then starting with a pair of 5″ heels probably isn’t what’s best for you. Starting with smaller heels and then progressively switching to higher heels when you feel comfortable in them is, according to me, the best way to finally reach your “heel goal”. I’d say starting with 2″ heels is a good thing, and several weeks (or months) later when you will feel totally comfortable and confident in those heels, try higher heels.
2. The Thicker, The Better
When it comes to starting with high heels, know that it will be easier for you to walk with thick heels. Thinner heels will give you a hard time balancing on them if you’re not used to heels, while thicker heels will give you more stability. Choose carefully !
3. Platform Or No Platform, That Is The Question
While platform shoes might seem incredibly high, they actually make the heel feel shorter, making your shoes more comfortable to walk with. Platforms also reduce the feeling of your feet’s impact on the ground, and this is definitely a game changer for your comfort.

4. Always Break Your Shoes Before Wearing Them
This is a tip that actually goes for any kind of shoes ! Just wear your shoes around the house, while doing whatever you’re doing in your house. You can also put on thick socks, and your shoes, then blow-dry your shoes around the tight sections for a few minutes, and keep your socks/shoes on while it cools.
5. Place Your Heel On The Ground First
You cannot walk in heels the same way you walk with flat shoes, and that’s precisely where most girls struggle. In order to feel and look natural when walking in heels, you need to make your heel come into contact with the ground first. Seriously, this is important. That’s basically what makes the difference between looking like a confident, heel-experienced woman, or looking like a fawn who’s learning to walk.
6. Take Small Steps
Take small steps, literally. Running in heels has never been a good idea, and it never will. You might want to try that in a couple of months, but for now, how about we focus on walking ? It will be easier for you to look natural with small steps rather than with big ones. Once again, this tip should allow you to avoid the “fawn learning to walk” look.
7. Don’t Give Up !
Being able to walk naturally with high heels takes time. So be patient, and with a little of training you will be able to wear any kind of heels you’d like !
