Urban Decay illuminated trio review makeup

I confess, I’m weak ! I was on Sephora.com the other day and when I saw this Urban Decay Illuminated Trio palette, I couldn’t resist… I HAD to buy it ! (Welcome to my compulsive buyer life)

Urban Decay is one of my favorite makeup brands – I particularly like their eye shadows, they are always amazing. I’ve never tried their blushes nor powders, I have never really tried any of their skin products actually, except for the Naked Skin foundation, so I thought I’d give those highlighters a try ! I was so excited when I received it, but if you watched my Instagram story, you already know that !

To be honest, I was really disappointed when I swatched the palette for the first time. The shades were not as pigmented as I expected them to be. Urban Decay has always been in my top 5, I have never been disappointed by any of their products. And suddenly I had this highlighter trio palette in my hands and the quality was so poor that I couldn’t even see the swatches on my arms.

But then I realized that those highlighters were baked (If you’ve never heard of baked makeup, you can click here to know what I’m talking about. ) so I tried to use them wet. It was better, but was it enough to convince me?

This palette contains three gorgeous shades: Pyrite, Oasis, and Twilight. And when I say gorgeous, I mean really gorgeous. (I mean, look at them ! I’m in love.)

PYRITE is an intense gold champagne, it’s the kind of color that I like wearing on my skin during the summer. It gives to my skin a warm gold glow, I absolutely love it. This highlighter looks great even when it’s used dry. This is my favorite shade on this palette.

OASIS is described as a marble frosted taupe, it’s the brighter shade of the palette. It looks like a veeery bright pink on my skin. I hated it when I tried to use it dry because I couldn’t get any pigmentation from it. Using it wet made things better, but it was still hard to get an intense pigmentation from it.

TWILIGHT looks like an intense peachy pink on the palette but really comes out as an iridescent pink on my skin. Once again, I wasn’t a big fan of this shade when I used it dry, and using it wet was better. Unfortunately, as for Oasis, it was still not what I expected it to be.

The three shades of this palette contain lots of glitters so if you’re not into sparkly highlighters, this palette is probably not for you ! But if you are then you might want to try it, since glitters is basically all you will get from those highlighters.

Those three shades can be used on your face and body, which is a good news for me because I love putting highlights on my collarbones when they are apparent.

The palette includes a mirror, and a double ended brush which is, as usual with Urban Decay brushes, a very good one.

The price ($36) is not excessive for a palette of three highlighters, but  to be honest the fact that using it dry is barely impossible makes me say that I wouldn’t recommend it. There are so many beautiful highlighters that are far cheaper than that, with more intense colors and textures that are easier to use. Sorry Urban Decay, I love you but this palette does not meet the high quality of your other products, according to me !

Have you tried this palette? What did you think of it ? Let me know in the comments !

Love,

Emma

    1. Thank you 😊 I totally agree with you ! Even if using them wet helps to get more pigmented colors, I wish I didn’t have to do that to get a good highlighter !
